Congressional Proclamation for National Nurses Month

Congressman Donald Norcross has issued a Congressional Proclamation naming May 2020 National Nurses Month in celebration of the nursing profession.

The proclamation reads:
WHEREAS, during the month of May 2020, the nation will celebrate the nursing profession and reflect on the commitment and dedication that Nurses provide to their communities and honor them for their courageous and dedicated service especially during these difficult times; and,

WHEREAS, nurses are leaving their families to care for others, while risking their own lives to save their neighbors, they have risen to the call to serve their communities and we are grateful for their selfless sacrifice; and

WHEREAS, in 1993, the American Nurses Association declared May 6 through 12 as the national week to celebrate and elevate the nursing profession, and this year they have expanded it to include the entire month of May to honor the impact that Nurses have on the health and vitality of a community, with May 12 marking the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing; and,

WHEREAS, Rutgers-Camden School of Nursing is transforming the future of the nursing profession, proliferating the understanding that healthcare is a basic right for everyone, while also continuing to prepare nurses to appreciate the full scope of the practice and pursue the unlimited opportunities available to serve the community and make a difference; and,

WHEREAS, today, nurses continue to touch the lives of every member in our community, providing an indispensable component of the safety and quality care of hospitalized patients, and contributing to the welfare and prosperity of the South Jersey region and of our nation; therefore
