Fall 2020

The Fall 2020 Semester will include remote synchronous and asynchronous courses taught online, labs taught online and in person, and some in-person instruction and test-taking. Please see the definitions and charts below for more information. Students should check the Schedule of Classes for the most up-to-date information on courses regarding the times of classes.  Should unforeseen circumstances mandate a change, the administrative team and faculty will communicate with you promptly.

General Information

Definitions:

  • Remote Synchronous Course: Some or all class sessions will be held at a scheduled day and time, and students will be expected to connect remotely within the class scheduled times. Faculty generally do not meet synchronously during the entire class period.  These days and times are viewable in the Schedule of Classes. These classes typically involve web conferencing. Class instructors will provide more information in the course syllabus. Synchronous courses typically include asynchronous elements, including video content, slides with voiceovers, and asynchronous assignments.
  • Remote Asynchronous Course: There are no scheduled class sessions. Rather, your instructor will provide materials—for example, readings, video content, presentations, lectures, assignments, and exams—and you can access these materials and satisfy the course requirements within time frames specified by the instructor. These classes typically include lecture notes or slides with voice-overs.

Advising Appointments:

The School of Nursing Advisors will be conducting virtual online appointments. If you wish to schedule an advising appointment you may do so through Raptor Connect. Appointments will be conducted through telephone or WebEx video conferencing and in necessary circumstances face to face meeting. You must note your preference in the comment section.

Health and Safety Protocol:

Face coverings will be required for all classes and social distancing will be practiced in all classes.
Students, Faculty, and Staff must practice regular handwashing and avoid touching their face, eyes, etc. whenever possible.
Anyone experiencing fever/chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle/body aches, new loss of taste or smell, sore throught, or other symptoms associated with Covid-19 exposure should stay home and contact their health care provider ASAP for further evaluation.

Nursing Skills Boot Camps

To prepare undergraduates for return to clinicals, the faculty and staff are conducting in-person boot camps for all rising, seniors, and ABS level 3s and level 4s. We have approximately 540 students who will attend one in-person 6-hour boot camp.  The boot camp is generic, meaning that it is meant to meet the basic needs of multiple courses. Students will sign up for any day, regardless of level (junior, senior, etc.

To accommodate all students in a socially distant manner, we will offer multiple boot camps over from Aug 17-19 and Aug 24-26. Students will sign up for one hour day.  Thanks to the wellness center and the COVID taskforce, we are also planning to distribute COVID screening kits (saliva) and personal protective equipment (PPE) at the same time. More information and boot camp sign-ups will come soon through your student email.

Graduate Information

Graduate students will have the opportunity to provide services in practices that have agreed to serve as preceptors. Additional opportunities will be available in our Community Clinics at the Branches and Ablett Village and participate in telehealth visits.
