Leading, Advocating and Excelling- All in Her First Year

From the moment she stepped onto campus, Jennifer Levy has been a force for change at Rutgers University School of Nursing–Camden. A dual major in Nursing and Gender Studies, she has already made a lasting impact as a student leader, advocate, and future nurse.

As a freshman, Levy founded and serves as the President of the Disability Advocacy Alliance, a student organization dedicated to supporting and empowering students with disabilities. Her leadership extends beyond her own organization—she is a member of the Student Nurse Association (SNA) and she is the only freshman serving on the Student Governing Association (SGA), holding the key role of Secretary on the executive board, where she advocates for hundreds of nursing students.

Levy is not only a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA), but she’s also passionate about nursing. Growing up in hospitals, she realized she wanted to give back to the healthcare community and make a difference in patient care. She spent over 90 volunteer hours at Nemours Children’s Hospital and even served on their Youth Advisory Committee, helping to make the experience better for young patients.

Beyond her leadership on campus, Levy is also recognized for her constant companion, Remi, the dog she has been training for months through Freedom Guide Dogs with the goal of becoming a guide dog for someone with a visual impairment.

"Rutgers-Camden has truly given me the opportunity to grow as a leader. I look forward to being able to apply these lessons to help me become a better nurse,” Levy says.

Looking ahead, she hopes to continue strengthening her leadership and advocacy work while preparing for a career in patient care and healthcare. With a strong foundation already built in her first year, there’s no doubt that she will continue making a difference—both at Rutgers–Camden and beyond!
