Biography
Dr. Jamille Nagtalon-Ramos is an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey. Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos’ research interests have been fueled by her clinical expertise in women’s health and her cultural roots. As a third-generation nurse who was born and raised in the Philippines, she is passionate about exploring the Filipino American experience and investigating sexual reproductive health and health disparities in diverse and vulnerable populations. She is the recipient of the Provost’s Fund for Research Catalyst Grant Award for her research on the sexual and reproductive health of Filipina American college students.
She has 17 years of experience teaching in undergraduate and graduate nursing programs and has received numerous awards for her dedication to teaching, recognized for incorporating innovation in the classroom, and acknowledged for her commitment to student advising and mentorship.
She is a board-certified women’s health nurse practitioner and lactation consultant who was instrumental in developing the inpatient hospitalist nurse practitioner role in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (now Penn Medicine) in Philadelphia, PA in 2003. Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos continues to practice clinically in this role and is recognized as an expert in postpartum care. She was part of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists’ Presidential Taskforce on Optimizing Postpartum Care, an expert panel of women’s health clinicians committed to improving maternal health during the puerperium. Her clinical expertise also includes lactation, contraception, and sexual health. In 2018, she was inducted as a fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners for her outstanding contributions in advancing nurse practitioner clinical practice and education. Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos served on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Nurse Practitioners in Women’s Health (NPWH) for over eight years where she served as secretary of the Executive Board, chaired and presented at NPWH national conferences, and developed the WHNP Student Leadership program. She currently serves as the treasurer of the Executive Committee of the Fellows of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Dr. Nagtalon-Ramos is an award-winning author of Maternal-Newborn Nursing Care: Best Evidence-Based Practices and has co-authored the 3rd, 4th, and 5th editions of Midwifery and Women’s Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Review Guide, a vital resource for midwifery and women’s health nurse practitioner students and new grads.
