Biography

Dr. Scott Hirst, DNP, APN, AGPCNP-BC, is a Clinical Assistant Professor at Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden, where he integrates his clinical expertise into academic scholarship and teaching. His academic interests center on quality improvement measures in the primary care setting, with a focus on chronic disease management, particularly in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), mental health comorbidities, and cardiovascular risk reduction. Dr. Hirst’s work emphasizes data-driven, algorithm-based approaches to enhance clinical decision-making and improve health outcomes in underserved populations. He brings his real-world experience as a nurse practitioner in Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) into the classroom, preparing future nurse leaders to serve with both compassion and evidence-based precision. Dr. Hirst also serves to improve transition to practice with new to practice APNs within Rutgers' APN Residency program.
