Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden celebrates you as you prepare for graduation!

August 2022, October 2022, and January 2023 graduates are invited to walk in our May 2023 Campus-wide Ceremony, events, and Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden’s Commencement Convocation.

Rutgers University—Camden’s Rites of Passage Ceremony, Graduation Picnic and Campus-wide Commencement Ceremony will take place at Freedom Mortgage Music Pavilion in Camden as follows:


 

SENIOR EVENTS

  • Brunch and Cap Decorating
    • Wednesday, May 10

      11 am – 1 pm

      Campus Center MPR

      Stop by the MPR for a delicious brunch, catch up with friends and make new ones, and decorate your cap for commencement.

  • Cheers! at the Victor Pub
    • Thursday, May 11

      6 pm – 8 pm

      Victor’s Pub, Camden Waterfront

      Join your peers for Cheers! at the Victor. Your $5 ticket will include heavy appetizers, one drink ticket, R Alumni swag, and entertainment (if you'd like to bring a guest, select that option when you register).

  • Bowling Event in Westville, NJ
    • Friday, May 12

      7 pm – 9 pm

      Westbrook Lanes, 1 Creek Rd, Brooklawn, NJ 08030

      Whether it’s been a while since you’ve bowled or you are a seasoned bowler, come out for a fun night of bowling at Westbrook Lanes (owned by Rutgers-Camden alumnus John Clotworthy SBC’11). Your $5 ticket includes 2 hours of bowling, shoes, food, one drink ticket, and R Alumni swag (if you'd like to bring a guest, select that option when you register).

    The Rites of Passage Ceremony is a pre-commencement celebration to honor Black and Latinx-identified students who through resolute persistence have successfully completed an Undergraduate or Graduate degree at Rutgers University–Camden.

  • Graduation Picnic:
    1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

  • Rutgers—Camden Campus and Graduate School Commencement:
    4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday, May 16, 2023

  • Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden Commencement Convocation:
    Names will be read at this ceremony and graduates will have the opportunity to walk across the stage.
    4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
    Freedom Mortgage Pavilion
    *Tickets will not be required for the Nursing Convocation. Students should plan to arrive at 2:30 p.m. Additional instructions will be sent to graduating students closer to the ceremonies.

 Purchasing Honors Cords

Honors cords can be purchased for $18 at the Campus Bookstore. They will be sold in the Bookstore until the first day of commencement, and also sold at the venue, Freedom Mortgage Pavilion.

 Academic Regalia

Academic regalia and other commencement items are now available for purchase.  Shop online at https://herff.ly/rucamden or visit the University District Bookstore located at 601 Cooper St, Camden, NJ 08102.
 
Cap & Gown order deadlines:
- In-store Pick Up: March 24, 2023
- Ship-to-Home: April 14, 2023 (shipping fees apply)
 
You may also visit the University District Bookstore and buy in-person from 3/7/23 - 5/17/23.
 
Please note:
- Honors cords are not available until academic units calculate honors closer to the graduation date. In order to be eligible to purchase honor cords, Bookstore associates will check if your name appears on honor listing that have been provided to the University District Bookstore by academic units.
- Several student groups and organizations give their members special cords, stoles and sashes. These are not for sale at the University District Bookstore.

How to Apply for Graduation

To be considered for graduation, students must submit the online diploma application through the Registrar’s Office. Students are reminded to check their class year, major(s), and minor(s) for accuracy.  If any of these need to be corrected, please contact the Registrar’s Office at (856) 225-6053.

  Application Periods: 
  • May Graduation: January 2 – March 1
  • October Graduation: June 1 – August 15 
  • January Graduation: September 1 – December 19

Graduation Certification Process for Nursing Students

Graduation Requirements

In order to graduate, students must meet the following degree conditions:

  • Earn a minimum of 30 of the final 42 credits as a regularly enrolled undergraduate at Rutgers Camden including 12 credits in the major.
  • Complete at least 124 credits with a cumulative average of 2.0 or be in good academic standing as defined by the School of Nursing-Camden policy.
  • Fulfill all requirements for the Nursing major.
  • Discharge all academic, disciplinary, and financial obligations to the university.

Minors

Students may contact the Registrar’s Office to have minors noted correctly on their academic record. Contact camreg@camden.rutgers.edu. Students must indicate minors on their online diploma application.  A student's minor department will approve their minor, and student's are advised to meet with this advisor.

What happens if degree requirements are not met?

Students who have not met their requirements for graduation/ineligible to graduate based on their grades will be notified by phone or email.

Financial Aid

Any student who received a Federal Loan while at Rutgers University - Camden are required to complete an “Exit Interview”. *Failure to complete this will place a financial hold on the student’s transcript. Special Note: October and January Graduates

All graduates of the Rutgers School of Nursing-Camden are encouraged to attend commencement in May. Graduates who will not be attending commencement may request their diploma be mailed to them using the online diploma application.

Rutgers Honors Graduates and Honor Societies

Requirements

A selection of qualified students for all honors societies is made based on the student's academic standing in February of the relevant academic year. Students may graduate with honors if they complete a minimum of 45 credits at Rutgers University as a matriculated student and if they earn a cumulative grade point averages of:

  • Cum Laude– 3.50
  • Magna Cum Laude – 3.75
  • Summa Cum Laude – 3.90

Honors Cords

Honors students must purchase their cords in-store at the University District Bookstore for $15. Honors cords cannot be purchased online.

Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI)

A selection of qualified students for all honors societies is made based on the student's academic standing in February of the relevant academic year. Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society holds an induction ceremony towards the end of the spring semester. Please review for Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden undergraduate and graduate students.

Diploma Pickup Information

May diplomas will be available by the beginning of July. Students are able to have their diplomas mailed, or to have them held for pickup at the Rutgers University - Camden One Stop Student Services Center (One Stop). If selecting the mailing option, please log in to the Rutgers Personal Information Page and click on the "Address Update" tab to verify your address on file is correct. If your mailing address needs to be updated, please email camreg@camden.rutgers.edu

Any student with a financial hold over $100 will have to resolve their hold in order to receive their diploma.

August, October, and January graduates who did not elect to have their diplomas mailed are able to pick up their diplomas at any time, including the day of their graduation ceremony, at the One Stop.

Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q: How many tickets does each student get for commencement?
A: At this time, tickets will not be required for the Nursing Convocation. Please contact @rusnc-media@camden.rutgers.edu with questions.
 
Q: What happens if degree requirements are not met?
A: Individuals who have not met their requirements or who are ineligible for graduation will be notified by phone or email.
 
Q: When will the pinning ceremony be held?
A: The pinning ceremony for nursing students will be held simultaneously during the commencement ceremony.
 
Q: What if my family needs to apply for a VISA to attend commencement?
A: Any concerns regarding VISA's, please email diana.keough@camden.rutgers.edu. Students should first check with their embassy or consulate to determine what information they will need for their guests. Most embassies/consulates request guest's full legal name, sex, DOB, and relationship to the student. Students must provide Diana Keough with all the required information, along with the name and address of the embassy/consulate to reduce the chance of rejection.
 
Q: When do I recieve my diploma?
