STATUS UPDATE: Commencement Ceremonies

Due to public health concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, Rutgers has canceled all events scheduled through the end of May, including commencement ceremonies. The university is working to identify and explore alternate ways to celebrate the Class of 2020. Details will be provided as they become available.  Your ideas on ways our campus community might best celebrate graduation this year are valued. Commencement is an exciting but hectic time! Please review the important information below:

Academic Regalia

The expected dress (regalia) is the cap, gown and hood.  Commencement 2020 regalia will be available for sale in the University District Bookstore. Visit the Grad Fair at the University District Bookstore March 23 – 25, 2020 and check out grad products.
The University District Bookstore cannot take phone orders. If you cannot go to store, order your regalia online.

How to Apply for Graduation

To be considered for graduation, students must submit the online diploma application through the Registrar’s OfficeStudents are reminded to check their class year, major(s), and minor(s) for accuracy.  If any of these need to be corrected, please contact the Registrar’s Office at (856) 225-6053.

Application Periods:

  • May graduation: January 2 – March 1 (subject to change)
  • October graduation: June 1 – August 15
  • January graduation: September 1 – December 19

Graduation Certification Process for Nursing Students

The Rutgers University Board of Governors confers degrees in May, upon the recommendation of the Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden faculty.  In order to graduate, students must meet the following degree conditions:

  1. Earn a minimum of 30 of the final 42 credits as a regularly enrolled undergraduate at Rutgers Camden including 12 credits in the major.

  2. Complete at least 124 credits with a cumulative average of 2.0 or be in good academic standing as defined by the School of Nursing-Camden policy.

  3. Fulfill all requirements for the Nursing major.

  4. Discharge all academic, disciplinary, and financial obligations to the university.

Minors

Students must indicate minors on their online diploma application.  Students must contact the Registrar’s Office to have minors noted correctly on their academic record.  A student's minor department will approve their minor, and student's are advised to make an appointment with their minor department advisor.

What happens if degree requirements are not met?
  • Individuals who have not met their requirements for graduation will be notified by phone or email. 
  • Students who are ineligible to graduate based on their grades will be notified by phone or email.
Financial Aid

Students who received a Federal Loan while at Rutgers are required to complete an Exit Interview, which can be completed on-line at www.studentaid.rutgers.edu. Failure to complete this requirement will result in a financial hold placed on the student's transcript. To obtain a complete listing of all Federal loans received at Rutgers and any other school, visit www.nslds.ed.gov

Special Note: October and January Graduates

All graduates of the Rutgers School of Nursing Camden are encouraged to attend commencement in May where diplomas will be awarded. Graduates who will not be attending commencement may request their diploma be mailed to them using the online diploma application.

Rutgers Honors Graduates and Honor Societies

Students may graduate with honors if they complete a minimum of 45 credits at Rutgers University as a matriculated student and if they earn a cumulative grade point averages of:

  • Cum Laude– 3.50
  • Magna Cum Laude – 3.75
  • Summa Cum Laude – 3.90

Honors classifications are determined at the end of the student’s last semester. These averages are precise; there is no rounding up. Honors graduates may purchase red cords from the Barnes and Noble Bookstore to wear at commencement. Honors designations are noted on the diploma, the transcript, and the commencement program.

Honor Societies

A selection of qualified students for all honors societies is made based on the student's academic standing in February of the relevant academic year.

Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI) Nursing Honor Society holds an induction ceremony towards the end of the spring semester. Please review STTI induction criteria for Rutgers School of Nursing–Camden undergraduate and graduate students.

Athenaeum – College and Arts and Sciences, School of Business- Camden, and School of Nursing-Camden members are elected from among the best scholars in the upper classes. Membership is limited to seniors who have earned at least 60 credits at the college with a cumulative grade-point average of no less than 3.5 and juniors who have earned at least 75 credits at the college with a cumulative grade-point average of no less than 3.7.

All Rutgers University graduates are automatically members of the Rutgers University Alumni Association (RUAA), the university-wide organization of more than 461,000 alumni.
